The 10-Minute Digital Product Picker
'Cus P.S. digital products are the secret to freeing up your time, reaching more people, AND making more money. This is how you pick the right one.
Use this when…
- You've got a dozen product ideas and no clue which one goes first.
- You have a whole lot of expertise and only 24 hours in the day.
- You're brilliant at a thing people come to you for, and it's all trapped in your calendar.
- You want a product that actually sells, not a cute folder of information AI could hand out for free.
By the end you'll have:
One product idea built on your secret sauce, so only you could make it. One transformation it delivers. One format that sells and survives AI. And a sense of where it fits your bigger picture. No giant course plan. Just the right first thing.
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Don't overthink it. Overthinking is where good ideas go to sit in a Claude chat forever.
Step 1
Name your dream human
The more specific you are here, the easier every other step gets. Vague human, vague product.
Too broad: "I help educators and parents support kids."
Sharp (parent coach): "I help primary-school parents whose child has a 'great day' at school, then it all unravels in the car on the way home."
Sharp (PD / consultant): "I help school leaders who need to support their teachers with behaviour management before another good one burns out."
Step 2 · Your secret sauce
Start with your secret sauce
Here's the part most people get wrong about digital products. A digital product doesn't sell because it's a product. It sells because nobody else could have made it. That's you. Your secret sauce is the specific way you get results, the method and judgement people already come to you for, whether they're colleagues or clients.
It's also your AI moat. AI can copy "generic" all day. It can't copy the way you've packaged your own experience. So the more this product is built on your way of doing things, the more it sells, and the safer it is.
This is usually the thing you explain over and over, or the method you've refined that just works. If you've got a name for it, even better. If not, describe it.
Now, the transformations it could create
A product sells one clear shift, from A to B, not a pile of information. Your secret sauce could probably create a few. Jot up to three as a shift: from [where they're stuck] to [what they want]. We'll pick the strongest next.
Step 3 · The Product Filter
Which transformation is worth building?
Score each one out of 2 on all three. 0 = nope · 1 = maybe · 2 = yes. The highest score is the product to build first.
Step 4 · Format
Pick a format that sells (and survives AI)
Quick truth: AI has made information free. So any product whose whole value is information, a generic checklist, a template, a tips PDF, won't sell anymore. Your person can get that from a chatbot in seconds.
The good news is yours is built on your secret sauce, so it's already the kind of thing AI can't copy. Pick the format that leans into that, where the value is your method, your judgement, the doing, or the access. Then let AI speed up your dream human's results inside it, so it makes your product better, not obsolete.
Step 5 · The bigger picture
Zoom out: does it fit the bigger picture?
One last check. The businesses that actually free up your time without capping your income or your impact aren't a pile of one-off products. They're an ecosystem: you pull one lever and something else fires off, now or later.
So does this product fit the bigger vision you're building? And can you see the next step it leads to? You don't have to build that next thing yet. Just knowing it's there will save you a lot of time later.
That next thing is the bigger offer they graduate into once this product delivers: a deeper program, a membership, a workshop series, your higher-ticket work.
Before you fall in love with it: the shrink test
If your idea does any of these, make it smaller:
- It solves the whole big problem in one go.
- It needs six modules before they get a result.
- It teaches more than it helps.
- It includes everything you know.
- It's for everyone who's ever met a child.
That last one's the foghorn. If it's for everyone, it lands with no one. One transformation, done brilliantly, beats ten half-covered.
Done. Here's the one to build first.
Your product, with a job.
Not "a thing I could make one day." A product built on your secret sauce, aimed at one person, delivering one transformation only you could deliver. That's what sells.
You've picked it. Now become the only choice.
Picking it is the easy part. Building it so it's done, launched, ready to buy, and future-proof because it's built on you, is exactly what Education Business School is for. And it's the first move in the bigger game: products, systems, and positioning that all work together, so you stop being one of the options and become the only real choice.
